The Downtown Development Authority’s mission is to enhance the quality of life and develop a positive image of Downtown Monroe for residents, businesses and visitors by promoting cultural and economic growth in the downtown area. In order to achieve its mission, the DDA has adopted the Main Street Four-Point Approach which integrates organization, promotion, design and economic restructuring to achieve preservation and revitalization within the downtown area. It is essential that the comprehensiveness of the Main Street Four-Point Approach is understood, and that each area receives the attention that it needs. Organization CommitteeBuilds consensus and cooperation among the many groups and individuals who have a role in the revitalization process. Handles policy and other structural duties within the program.
Promotion CommitteeMarkets the DDA district’s assets to customers, potential investors, new business, local citizens, and visitors through image and retail promotions as well as special events.
Design CommitteeEnhances the physical appearance of the commercial district through historic preservation education, architectural assistance, public space decoration and design regulation and review.
Economic Restructuring CommitteeStrengthens the district’s existing economic base while finding ways to expand it to meet new opportunities and challenges from outlying development.
Capital Improvements CommitteeDetermines, funds and/or organizes public improvements within the DDA district.
Façade Grant CommitteeFacilitates the MSM/DDA’s Façade Improvement Program and recommends projects to the MSM/DDA Board for funding.
